MASSART COSTUME CLUB

Member to Co-Representative

MORE ABOUT MY TIME WITH THE MASSART COSTUME CLUB

At the end of my freshman year I was taken aside by my Costume Club upperclassmen and asked to take over the club when they graduated. The club had only been created by them that year and was still rather small so it was a bit of an undertaking, but I was honored and gladly embraced the responsibilities of running the club for the next three years. I invited a fellow Costume Club member and friend of mine, Nova also known as Locomania22 within the cosplay community, to become my co-representative and throughout the years we accomplished some wonderful things for the club. In the end, I got to pass it on when I was a senior in the same way it was passed to me. Listed below are some of our achievements.

  • Weekly meetings for dedicated crafting time, general costuming discussions, and help and critique as needed.

  • Workshops and Demonstrations from both club members and local costume creators to introduce new or less-than accessible techniques students may not otherwise have access to learning.

  • Funded Small Student Projects to allow students to explore new and interesting areas of costuming that may not be able to afford otherwise.

  • Local Convention Trips to allow students the chance to attend costuming panels and workshops outside of the ones the club put on as well as give them the opportunity to make connections within the Boston costuming community.

  • Studio and Location Photoshoots for students to get their work professionally photographed for their portfolios.
