MORE ABOUT YURIO

Yuri!!! On Ice is one of the few animes that I have watched week-by-week as it originally aired subbed. It is a downright ridiculous show for a lot of reasons, but it has so much heart behind all the outlandish scenarios and behavior, that I simply adore it. It also means a lot to me because my friends and I would watch it each week and then discuss the week's episode during our Costume Club meetings, and although we were friends before, it was really watching this show together, and getting to discuss and laugh and cry together over it, that made us as close as we are today.

During those original discussions we had while the show was still airing, we found that each of us related to a different one of the three main characters. We set out at first to make casual costumes of them, but then that ended up growing into working on much more elaborate costumes like this one.

This bodysuit was very "thrown together at the last minute," so it was made with only things that I could find at Joann's or in my scrap bin. This included the dark gray and white shades of Yaya Han's Ultrapreme fabric, a reflective silver fabric found in the performance section at Joann's, feathers from a white boa, and some white stretch vinyl I had leftover from Ken Kaneki. Things are, I guess technically speaking, appliquéd.
