ORANGE BLOSSOMS

A bridal collection made in tandem with a bridal gown I created. This collection was inspired by deconstructed garments and classic wedding floral arrangements.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT ORANGE BLOSSOMS

I don't think I'm interested in persuing bridal design any more than I did in this project, however it was really captivating to try to create something that was both new and exciting and would be meaningful now to a potential bride now, while at the same time creating something that adhered to tradition enough that it would be able to age well, and the bride could look back on photos fifty years from now and still be proud of her gown choice. While there is no telling what exactly will be the next classic garment and how this specific look will age, it was an interesting challenge.

I ended up tackling this challenge by combining the newer trend of deconstructed clothing, and the very traditional flowers usually found at weddings, orange blossoms. I designed sleek princess line gowns to be made with silk gazaar, and split the princess lines with silk organza box pleats. I also added silk organza overlays with similar box pleats to add different dimensions to different looks and emphasize the construction (or deconstruction) of each look in different amounts.

To finalize these designs I added silk ribbon embroidery flower petels to the outermost layer of each garment. This was meant to emphasize layers further and add something special to the back of the dress, the part guests would be staring at for most of the ceremony. While I originally intended to do these flower petals in while, like the orange blossoms they were inspired from, I ended up designing them to be various levels of pink and white as in practice the white alone just didn't stand out enough.

As I've said before, I have no idea how this look will age, but it was a fun challenge to take on and at least as of now, I'm quite happy with the results.
