DELINEATION

A collection created in tandem with a stand-alone look I created. Inspired by practical effect creature design as well as the fear of the unknown and the barriers one draws to keep themselves within a life they find to be safe.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE DELINEATION COLLECTION

On my Delineation Stand-Alone Look Page I talked a lot about how I was inspired by creature design when creating that look. Instead of repeating all that here, I'd like to talk more about how I designed the rest of the collection. When I decided to move away from full on creature design and go in a more uncanny valley direction, I ended up thinking a lot about how people fear the unknown. It led me to the idea of taking very known and trustworthy shapes, like the human form, and changing them just enough to make them something new unknown might put the viewer on edge. Even seeing a garment that could fit a human, but you couldn't necessarily prove that by just looking at it, might give the viewer a sense of unease. So I took the human form, and added a bunch of weird shapes to it where there shouldn't be.

This collection has some mixed results. To the people who were there when I created it, it was just a cool idea—there is no sense of unease at all—and to people who weren't, it's a mixed bag of people who either seem to just think art is weird and not bothering to let themselves react to it, or people who do seem to be genuinely set on a edge from not being able to see a face under my oddly-shaped designs. I'll take that mixed bag.
